Here we go again! Our eleventh long-distance drive is about to start when we ship our cars from the UK to Newfoundland, Canada, in about two weeks time.
I am writing this posting from Sussex, on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. I just hope this is the sort of weather we will have when we drive across Newfoundland and down the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.
The map shows our start from St. John's on September 14th. We spend two nights crossing Newfoundland to Port Aux Basques, where we catch the overnight ferry to North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Once in Nova Scotia we head for Halifax where we are spending two nights at the Harbourfront Hotel, the hotel we stayed at when we finished our Canadian drive last year. From Halifax we take a ferry across the Bay of Fundy, to Saint John, New Brunswick and then it's on to the Canadian/USA border. We drive along the coast of Maine to Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. We leave Connecticut by taking a ferry across to Long Island. We skirt round New York on our way to Chesapeake Bay, where we are hoping to spend a couple of nights with our good friends Judy and Tom. Then we head inland to West Virginia and down the Blue Ridge Parkway through Virginia into North Carolina. From there it is a one day drive across South Carolina to Charleston. Our final destination, Savannah, Georgia will be reached on October 2nd and then the cars will be shipped overland to our house in California ready for our next drive.
